Monday 24th to Friday, April 28th

The students have taken on the role of entrepreneur as they have been working on creating their own food trucks. We began by looking at food trucks within our own city, discussing the different names and logos. The students found that they were drawn to some logos more than others. We then came up with concepts for our own food trucks. The students experimented with different truck types, names and logos. They then did some market research, surveying their peers before selecting their final design.

We then began working on developing our menus. The students worked to included a variety of descriptive language to make their menu more appealing to their customers. We had signature sauces drizzled on crispy chicken tenders, homestyle sesame crusted buns and hand pressed beef patties! We then researched food truck prices in Calgary to price our own menus.

Next week, we integrate math into the project by creating our three dimensional truck and calculating the area and perimeters of our truck interiors.

The grade fours had a fantastic time during our netball residency this week. It is such a wonderful, fast paced game. Each of the seven players has a following position which helps it to be a true team sport where all players are active and engaged. It allowed students to work on their passing and shooting skills. Thank you to our Parent Council for making this opportunity possible.

This short week was all about kindness at Andrew Sibbald School. The grade two's and kindergarten classes kicked our week off with a fantastic assembly centered on the concept of kindness. This was a perfect fit with our Valentine's celebrations this week and Pink Shirt Day next week.

Thank you to all the families who were able to make it out for our Grade Four Celebration of Learning. The students were incredibly excited to share their work with their families and the students within our school. It was a wonderful way to culminate our time spent working on the Minecraft Design Challenge. The students showed a great deal of growth throughout this experience. They developed patience with challenging technology, worked to collaborate and be flexible with their peers and to use their imaginations and celebrate their creativity. As they learned about social, economic and climate resilience, the students developed a greater understanding of the needs of our city and the importance of creating places that are open and accessible to all. If you were unable to join us for our celebration at the school, please have your child share their work with you at home.
