Monday, March 20th to Friday, March 24th

This week we wrapped up our work around the novel, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. While we were sad to say goodbye to the main character, Edward, we were excited by how his journey ended. Be sure to have your child share how the story closed and how Edward changed along the way. Edward's journey was a wonderful springboard for a variety of literacy activities. They wrote a variety of poems, songs, letters and alternate story events. We created small books to share our work.

The grade fours have been incredibly excited to be a part  of the Minecraft design challenge. The challenge  provides our students with an opportunity to navigate through a virtual representation of downtown Calgary, interacting with experts as they consider the Resilient Calgary Strategy. The students first selected one of the four areas to design: The Green Line YYC, The Calgary Public Library, Fort Calgary or Sein Lok Park. They then worked to on a design that met the three resiliencies, climate, economic and social. They have now begun bringing their visions to life within Minecraft.

Monday, February 27th to Friday, March 3rd

It is hard to believe that it is already March. The time seems to be passing so quickly! Over the past few weeks, the grade fours have been working together with our grade five teacher Mrs. Sampson. As a part of our work in health, we have been learning about the Calgary Board of Education's Code of Conduct. Our focus was on the learning outcome: personal well-being is supported through positive relationships built on communication, empathy and respect. We looked a a student friendly version of the document and learned all about our responsibilities in being welcoming, caring, safe and respectful. The students had a fantastic time creating skits to illustrate examples from the document. We have some talented actors in grade four!
