Monday, December 12th to Friday, December 16th

The students were very excited to begin our second class read aloud. Before introducing the novel, the students were presented with a variety of artifacts from the book. Next, they made thoughtful predictions about the book using the artifacts. The students were then introduced to the book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We have been using the book for a springboard for our writing and as a way to share our understanding of text. Our focus has been on: extend understanding and identify perspectives by sharing personal responses to texts and Reflect on ideas using a variety of representations.

Monday, December 5th to Friday, December 9th

In science, the students have been motivated as they have been researching a variety of methods of waste disposal including, landfills, recycling, windrow composting, and incineration. They learned about how their method worked as well as the advantages and disadvantages. The students then began creating Google Slides to represent their learning. Next week, the students will share their slides with the class. Our learning focus was: describe alternate methods of waste disposal and identify advantages and disadvantages of each and locate information to answer research questions using a variety of sources.

Monday, November 28th to Friday, December 2nd

This week, the students were excited to play the role of detective in, The Case of the Greedy Gnome. The students have been using their math skills to uncover clues that will help to determine the suspect. Our focus has been on the learning outcome; construct and interpret pictographs and bar graphs involving many to one correspondence. We have been slowly crossing suspects off our list and will soon find the guilty party!
