Monday, December 5th to Friday, December 9th

In science, the students have been motivated as they have been researching a variety of methods of waste disposal including, landfills, recycling, windrow composting, and incineration. They learned about how their method worked as well as the advantages and disadvantages. The students then began creating Google Slides to represent their learning. Next week, the students will share their slides with the class.

Our learning focus was: describe alternate methods of waste disposal and identify advantages and disadvantages of each and locate information to answer research questions using a variety of sources.

Monday, February 13th to Wednesday, February 15th

This short week was all about kindness at Andrew Sibbald School. The grade two's and kindergarten classes kicked our week off with a fantastic assembly centered on the concept of kindness. This was a perfect fit with our Valentine's celebrations this week and Pink Shirt Day next week.

Monday, May 15th to Friday, May 19th

The students in grade four have been reading a new book, The City of Ember, by Jeanne DuPrau. The book tells the story of a city without natural light that is t hreatened by an aging infrastructure and rapidly diminishing supplies. The book offers a variety of wonderful opportunities to connect to our science unit: Building Devices and Vehicles That Move. The students played the role of one of the jobs in the book, Pipeworks Laborer, and worked collaboratively to design a pipe system that could carry water from one place to another. This met the learning outcome: Use simple forces to power or propel a device such as moving water downhill.

September 12th to September 16th

This week, we began our work in Social Studies by introducing Alberta's fossil heritage. The students worked together to make observations and inferences about a variety of fossils. This activity was our starting point for the outcomes; students will appreciate how Alberta's fossil heritage contributes to the provinces unique character and how did archeologists and paleontologists discover the presence of dinosaurs in Alberta?
